How INC is Rewiring a Generation for Real Connection (and Why It Matters for the Kingdom)

INC fills a distinct niche in Southwest Florida by merging faith and creativity.

Young people drawn to digital media, film, art, and music no longer have to choose between developing their talents and growing in faith—INC empowers them to do both in harmony.

Looking back, the highlights of my childhood and adulthood were once found not behind screens, but in laughter, competition, and camaraderie—playing board games, building with Lincoln Logs, or solving puzzles around a kitchen table with family and friends.

These experiences were more than entertainment; they were the heartbeat of relationships and community, nurturing our passions, values, and sense of purpose.

We talked face to face about faith, life, and meaning, building real connection—a stark contrast to today’s digital landscape. Those formative years instilled empathy, belonging, and purpose that no digital platform can replicate. Moments of laughter, deep conversation, and genuine presence shaped who we are and how we relate to others. In a world captivated by digital convenience, we must remember the lasting power of real human connection—one that transforms lives and leaves a legacy far beyond fleeting trends or online interactions.

Even our evenings in front of the television were communal. TV programs like Little House on the Prairie, Leave It to Beaver, Star Trek, Mister Rogers Neighborhood, Out of Africa, The Thorn Birds, The Holocaust, Full House, Roots, Gone with the Wind, Mr. Holland’s Opus, Jesus of Nazareth, Eight Is Enough, The Titanic, The Ten Commandments, and many others became springboards for discussion, critical thinking, and collective reflection. After the credits rolled, we didn’t retreat into our own worlds; instead, we wrestled with the issues together, asking questions and sharing perspectives. Family prayer time was a sacred anchor—moments of profound worship, shared prayers, and Scripture reading, all woven together in real time, with real presence.

Today’s digital media, despite its convenience, has quietly eroded these deep bonds.

Social feeds and instant messages offer only fleeting, curated imitations of true connection—often leaving us more isolated than ever. The screens that promise to connect us have, in reality, robbed us of authentic relationships and meaningful conversation.

To reclaim our sense of community and purpose, we must courageously look up from our devices and rediscover the transformative power of genuine, face-to-face connection—especially for the next generation.

Excessive gaming and virtual and digital media can significantly affect a young person’s physical health, real-life relationships, sense of purpose, and spiritual life. When screen time reaches nine or more hours a day, it stops being a simple hobby and can begin to overshadow essential areas of human development and faith.

How does it affect these core areas of life and faith in young people?

The Brain and Focus

Spending many hours a day in highly stimulating virtual environments can oversaturate the brain’s reward system (dopamine). Over time, this can make everyday, real-world activities—like studying, reading, or quiet reflection—feel unappealing or difficult to focus on.

Relationships

Human connection requires time, presence, and effort. Excessive gaming often replaces face-to-face interactions with family, friends, and mentors, leading to isolation or superficial online connections that lack true emotional depth.

Purpose and Motivation

Youth and young adulthood are critical periods for discovering talents, pursuing career goals, and developing life skills. When gaming dominates a schedule, it can drain the energy and ambition needed to pursue a meaningful calling.

Spiritual Walk with God

A strong spiritual life depends on stillness, prayer, reading and meditating on Scripture, and fellowship with others. A crowded digital schedule leaves little mental space or time for quiet devotion, making it difficult to listen to God and grow spiritually.

This is where INC’s Emerging Creatives program steps in.

INC counteracts the isolating effects of digital saturation by moving young people from passive screen consumption to active, Christ-centered creation. Anchoring their talents in faith and direct human connection, the program restores the areas of development most compromised by excessive gaming and digital media.

INC specializes in discipling young artists in Southwest Florida, partnering with local organizations and churches to build a movement of creative, faith-filled leaders. The INC Emerging Creatives program is a mentorship-driven community that systematically builds healthy, alternative pathways for the brain, relationships, purpose, and faith. By providing tangible experiences, it offers youth a real alternative to digital overload:

Restoring Focus & Rewiring the Reward System

Instead of rapid-fire, high-dopamine digital loops, INC engages Gen Z and Gen Alpha youth in multi-hour tactile environments. Whether through visual arts (Mixed Media) or music, these slow-yield, disciplined creative processes train the mind to focus and find deep satisfaction off-screen.

  • Replacing Isolation with Presence: By meeting regularly, the program replaces online anonymity with real presence. It provides young creatives with face-to-face community, local peer collaboration, and structured mentorship from professional media and arts specialists.

  • Redirecting Energy into a Meaningful Calling: Rather than pouring finite energy into virtual milestones, emerging creatives are challenged to see their God-given gifts as tools to impact culture. The curriculum moves them from virtual distractions to cultivating real-world skills, discovering their identity in Christ, and exploring real careers in the arts.

  • De-crowding the Mind for Spiritual Walk: The program's cornerstone is integrated Bible teaching, Scripture memorization, worship, and the arts. INC intentionally carves out the quiet, fellowship, and reflective space young people need to meditate on Scripture and hear God's voice, directly pushing back against a noisy digital schedule.

Finding Balance and Regaining Time

INC believes small and intentional shifts can help restore balance:

Swapping Screen Time for Spiritual Time

Reclaim at least 15-30 minutes of gaming time each day for intentional prayer, reading Scripture, and meditation.

Setting Clear Boundaries

Use built-in console or smartphone timers to strictly limit daily play and engagement. Keep gaming systems out of the bedroom to protect sleep quality.

Creating Tech-Free Zones

Dedicate specific times of the day—such as meals, family time, or the first hour after waking up—completely to real-world connection and reflection.

Investing in Real-Life Activities

Physical hobbies, sports, volunteering, or joining a local youth group or faith community build a healthy identity, a sense of achievement, resilience, purpose, spiritual growth, and belonging that video games and digital media try to mimic.

This is a costly venture. We need your help.

The cultural shift ahead of us demands urgent action. We must reach today's digital natives before the world defines who they are and what they believe. If you are concerned about the future of your children and grandchildren, and about the culture we live in, the world those we love most will inherit, I invite you to join us in this critical venture. Without your financial support and prayers, we cannot accomplish our mission.

Your gift today will directly fund our Southwest Florida programs, helping us reach more creatives, expand our outreach, mentor more young leaders, and bring Christ's hope and healing to our community through the arts. Your generous support is a Kingdom Return On Investment (KROI).
